I have EigenD set to send MIDI out. I point it to one of the virtual MIDI ports created by LoopBe (I'm on WIndows). I use that same MIDI out port for all VST/tracks I record into Reaper.

For MIDI into Reaper, I enabled that MIDI port for both note and CC message. Reaper defaults to picking up MIDI on all channels, so I normally don't select a specific channel for the Eigenharp. (I've got my keyboard and EWI hooked to a M-AUDIO Midiman and do set those up to transmit on descreet channels.)

To record audio from the Eigenharp into Reaper (not MIDI into VST, but internal audio), I create a audio track in Reaper. It defaults to receiving audio from the main channel. Record-enable the track and play away.

I also use Studio One (now, I actually use it more than Reaper). With it, to record audio from the Eigenharp, I need to explicitly choose the audio channel (doesn't default to this during track creation as Reaper). Working with MIDI in Studio One is pretty similar to Reaper.

I hope this helps.

Randy

Few months later but this helps me a lot too.
Great you share it, for us (me anyway) beginners in DAW and Eigenharp land.
Thanks from this side too and now.... to testing... to work :D !!

Hi,

What do people recommend as an audio/midi interface for the pico?

Has anybody tried the Saffire 6, the M-audio Fasttrack Pro, or the Tascam 122/144?

It would be good to know whether these devices work well with the pico (and latency etc isn't an issue).

Some quick suggestions would be appreciated as I'm hoping to make some music this weekend! Any takers?

Thanks,
Bjoern

I've just bought a Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 to replace my aging Saffire LE. It was £150 from GAK.co.uk including delivery and a free pair of headphones (cheap sennheisers, but surprisingly good for the price). It does everything I need. It has a handy loop back function so you can route audio from EigenD to your DAW if required. So far it's been bullet proof, as was the LE before it.

I have a Fast Track Pro. Don't currently have it hooked. I only work with MIDI-based instruments. Even for Eigenharp recordings, you shouldn't need an interface. Download Reaper DAW. You can record directly from EigenD or any AU/VST instruments you desire.

Any questions on this, please ask. Be glad to help.

Hi Mark, hi Randy,

thanks for the comments! I'm intending to connect the Eigenharp with a friend's audio/midi setup, so I need midi-out and a good quality audio-out. The Saphire range looks great.

Randy: Could you post your configuration for EigenD to work with Reaper (both for EigenD and Reaper)? I've used Logic Pro so far, but might give Reaper a go as well. Would be really handy to have the configurations, so that I don't have to look around! (Are you on OS X? If so, do you use soundflower?)

Thanks,
Bjoern

If you're up to a proper interface you should also check the Apogee Duet 2. I think it has an extremely good audio interface and Midi is great too. It's more top-level and only available for mac, but I think its one of the best in its price range.
